'...Lachlan was calm. He was so calm. He didn’t feel sick anymore. He simply bumped his forehead against the doors, cool to the touch, and pressed his ear to the seam between the two. Moss green eyes fluttered closed as tears, unexpected as they were, silently rolled down his cheeks.

It took Miss Tennison eight and a half minutes to die. He counted, though he might have been a little off.

When he felt a familiar hand on his, Lachlan realized he was still rooted in place, hands still gripping the door bars, until Roman gently pried one away, then the other. Lachlan was no longer trembling. Just smiling.

It wasn't a pleasant thing.
